The Salt Spring Retreat, November 26-27, 2011
Lynnclaire’s perspective
Six remarkable “Gen Why-Knot'ers”, and five “Boomers” were onboard Amiamo last weekend for an introductory, informative and exploratory session on Mereon. Let me tell you, when the last pair of sneakers hit Breakwater Dock Sunday afternoon to head to the ferry, they were excited and we were steeped in the paradoxical amalgam of excited + exhausted! The depth of understanding, intelligence, commitment, and pragmatism was matched by the soaring excitement. At the end of the day we Boomers all expressed something few of us had experienced in recent years, the elegant sense of ease that comes with the sense that while prior generations may have messed up, the planet is indeed in very capable hands. To have a gathering of 20-somethings with the values and vision and the energy to set out to make positive and sustainable change, and also realize that they need the wisdom and advice from those of us who have earned our ‘gray and white hairs’ is awesome.
These young people don’t have a whine in them, and came for more than to be wined and dined (which we were more than honoured to do.) They came, began to learn and began to relearn. On Sunday they came with more than questions; they presented what I have long called “Why Knot ReSoulutions”. The time was punctuated by laughter, the arrival of Santa on Salt Spring Air, and late night tea and gluten free brownies at The Tree House who to our delight stayed open late to host us!
Even now they are connecting with individuals in their centers of influence with whom they know this work will resonate. All the “Boomers” were astonished at who these young people actually know!
At this time they are organizing and preparing for their first full “ReVisioning my Life Course” to be held in Vancouver January 6, 7, 8. Their purpose is clear; while they may have a cognitive and intuitive understanding of the work, they need and want to experience the workshop for themselves. They are also using this as an opportunity to bring interested individuals and advocates together to experience it as well and further acquaint themselves with the nature of Mereon and the work.
